Day In the Life

My friend Gracie over at Hungry Blonde just finished her 31-day blog challenge, and honestly, it seriously inspired me! I am a nostalgic fool and love things that remind me of beloved times in my life. Her posting every single day without fail reminded me of the good old days.

This will come as a surprise to absolutely no one, but I loved the days of blogging in 2009. I used to look forward to waking up to brand new blog posts from my favorite “healthy living” bloggers. I spent my lunch breaks during college poring over posts and comments. There was a true sense of community that one is hard-pressed to find or create now in 2019.

All of that aside, my favorite blog posts Gracie posted and the ones others connected with most (according to her Story poll) were “Day In the Life” style. It inspired me to move forward fully into the OG style of blogging, so here we go!

6:15am: My alarm went off and I instantly contemplated why I set it that early.

6:30am: Rolled out of bed in our Airbnb (which once was a garage), made coffee, studied. This week is all about sugar, which if memory serves, is the second time it’s been a main topic of the week. Sugar was a former trigger of mine, so it’s interesting to go through this subject in great detail now. I find myself rolling my eyes at certain lecturers’ suggestions. Not that I don’t believe that going low-to-no sugar for people is helpful (especially those with thyroid, heart, or diabetes issues), but just because this type of rhetoric was very damaging for me in the past. So much of it goes beyond simply educating people and borders on scare tactics. I’m thankful I’m in a place now where I don’t take this information is something I must follow, ASAP.

7:45am: Drove to the gym in the mist (loved it!) and took my first personal training session in over two years. I love working out solo, but there are a few things for longevity I want to work on, like knee and hip health. I haven’t committed to any plan with this trainer yet (because I will always feel like something I don’t “need” is unnecessary financially), but he totally kicked my ass while respecting some of my injuries. I really loved it.

9:30am: Headed home with smoothies for Zach and me. I love Earth Bar’s Chocolate Supreme smoothie with chocolate hemp protein, hemp milk, maca, banana, and I do no almond butter (Zach is allergic to almonds) and add spinach. I LOVE this smoothie, and while I’m without a kitchen, spending money on smoothies is 100% worth it to me.

I went back to our Airbnb, showered, then enjoyed my smoothie with another cup of coffee. I studied for another hour or so while drinking and getting ready.

11:30am: After getting ready, I ventured out for some errands. First up, I needed to drop by Corrective Skincare to pick up Refresh pH Pads. I’m not even sure what’s in these pads, but I use them every other night to exfoliate my skin. They help massively with helping clear up acne scars.

After I picked those up, I drove to the car wash. While driving, I filmed an episode of Riding In Cars with Snacks. I really don’t care if 2 or 200 people watch it— I get so much joy from filming them in the first place. (Also, another thank you to Zoey for ordering these Oreo Joy Fills for me!)

The car wash I go to is called Handy J, and I just really wanted to share that here. Too good.

1:30pm: Back at the Airbnb, I ate my Erewhon salad bar salad (arugula, romaine, celery, sauerkraut, kimchi cucumbers, sweet potato, chickpeas, lemon juice, pumpkin seeds, nutritional yeast, tortilla strips) and got back to studying. I also worked through some emails for Hi-Lo and future clients.

3:30pm: Had a call for Hi-Lo. We are opening our Long Beach location in the next couple weeks and there is a LOT of work to do. I need to order everything to stock the store full of market goods. It’s very exciting, but I’ve never done it before, so there are a lot of challenges too. After the call, I worked on some social media items and finished a lecture.

5:00pm: Had a call with one of my accountability coaches for the IIN program. Honestly, this is my favorite part of the whole program: connecting with others. It’s amazing to me that we can create strong connections with people we’ve never met in person from across the country.

6:00pm: Watched an episode of Queer Eye: We’re In Japan! with Zach while deciding what to order for dinner and texting my brother.

7:00pm: Wrote this blog post while waiting for dinner. I didn’t snap a pic, but I had an AMAZING burrito from Tocaya along with some wine. And a Pocky stick or two.

It’s now 8:26pm and I’m wrapping up this blog post! The rest of the night will be spent relaxing and hanging out with Zach.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Ciao for now,
Kailey
